Located in
the mountains of Western North Carolina (Brevard, NC) about 30 miles
from Asheville, GreenGait Farm started informally in the year 2000
with Bill and Judith Kerns looking for a closely matched pair of
horses to be a part of their wedding plans. Judith brought many
years of riding and breeding experience in the horse industry to
the union and Bill brought a deformed hip, low golf handicap, and
a ton of enthusiasm. As a part of their search they attended the
Piedmont Paso Fino Horse Associations Asheville Show. Their
hearts were won over by the smooth gait, natural elegance, intelligence,
and willing disposition of the Paso Fino Horses. Soon thereafter
a pair of Paso Finos became residents of GreenGait Farm, and transportation
to their wedding.

Our
second season proved even more successful with a National championship
in the Pleasure Stallion class and as Reserve Grand National Champion
Pleasure Stallion. El Santon received his Title of Proficiency award
with over 500 show points earned and a second year as the High Point
Pleasure Stallion in the Piedmont region.
While
El Santon was collecting show ribbons, we were adding quality mares
to our family of Paso Fino horses. Our breeding program strove to
produce high quality show and trail horses. Several of our broodmares
are top winners in the show ring and champions in their own right.
This year our mares produced three beautiful fillies: Dominga, La
Sonrisa de Sarah, and Marchaloca. Next year will see El Santons
first offspring - we are very excited about that!

Several
Paso Fino additions later, Judith decided to fulfill a childhood
fantasy and enter the show ring with some of our horses. Our first
year was an experience beyond our best expectations. Our Pleasure
stallion, El Santon de United won most of his classes and several
Grand Championship ribbons at shows in the Southeast. He capped
the season off winning National Champion in the 4 year old colts/geldings
class, and being awarded the high point stallion in his class
by the Piedmont Paso Horse Association.

A
mild four season climate, coupled with a vast supply of some of
the countrys best horse trails, makes Western North Carolina
a great location for horse lovers. Our Paso Finos not only turn
heads on the trails, they have proven themselves as the consummate
trail horse, providing comfort, stamina, and a wonderful spirit.
